Glass greenhouses give your plants the clearest light there is and give your garden a true centerpiece. At Mulberry Greenhouses we carry glass greenhouses and glass greenhouse kits from Exaco Janssens (Belgium), Cross Country (Canada), Alton (UK) and Hoklartherm (Germany), from small 8'x8' kits to grand Victorian orangeries. Every glass greenhouse ships free to mainland US addresses, and real people in Atlanta, GA help you choose.

Why Choose a Glass Greenhouse?

  • The most light. Clear glass lets more sunlight through than any other glazing, and it stays clear for decades. It never yellows or clouds like plastic.
  • Built to last. Tempered safety glass on a sturdy aluminum or cedar frame can serve you for a lifetime with simple care.
  • Beautiful. A glass greenhouse looks like part of your home, not a garden shed. Many owners use theirs as a sunroom, studio or dining spot.
  • The tradeoff: single glass holds heat less well than thick polycarbonate. If you grow through hard winters, look at a hybrid roof or insulated dual-pane glass, and plan for a heater.

Glass vs. Polycarbonate Greenhouses

Glass Polycarbonate
Light Crystal clear Diffused, softer
Looks Classic, elegant Practical
Winter heat Loses more (unless dual-pane) Holds heat better
Lifespan Decades, stays clear Long, may haze over time
Best for Showpiece gardens, mild to moderate winters Cold climates, hail, budget

Want both? The Royal Victorian VI34, VI36 and VI46 also come as a hybrid, with glass side walls and a polycarbonate roof. Or browse our polycarbonate greenhouses.

What to Look for in a Glass Greenhouse Kit

  1. Tempered safety glass. It is much stronger than ordinary glass and breaks into small, blunt pieces. Janssens uses 4mm tempered glass; the Cross Country Parkside uses 3mm tempered glass.
  2. Single, full-height panes. Overlapping small panes collect dirt and leak heat. Janssens Victorian walls use one piece of glass per section.
  3. Rubber seals, not just clips. Rubber-sealed glass is quieter, tighter and better insulated.
  4. Snow and wind ratings. Check each product page. Cross Country models can be upgraded for heavy snow and high wind.
  5. A solid foundation. Glass is heavy, so it needs a level, square base. Our greenhouse foundation guide explains your options.

Glass Greenhouse FAQ

Is a glass greenhouse better than polycarbonate?

Glass is better for light, looks and lifespan. Polycarbonate is better for insulation and hail. If you want glass but have cold winters, choose a hybrid roof or insulated dual-pane glass and add a heater for the coldest nights.

How long does a glass greenhouse last?

With a good aluminum or cedar frame and a solid base, a glass greenhouse can last for decades. The glass itself does not yellow or wear out.

Can a glass greenhouse handle hail and storms?

Tempered glass is much tougher than ordinary glass, and many of our models carry snow and wind ratings on their product pages. In areas with frequent large hail, a polycarbonate roof is the safer choice.

What is the best small glass greenhouse?

For a classic look in about 8'x10', the Royal Victorian VI23 and Junior Victorian J-VIC 23 are customer favorites. For a sturdy Canadian-built option, the Cross Country Parkside 8'x10' and 8'x12' are hard to beat.

Is it hard to replace a broken pane?

No. Single panes are easy to remove and replace. Let us know which pane you need, and we will arrange the replacement with the manufacturer.

How is a glass greenhouse delivered?

By freight truck, usually in wooden crates. Shipping is free to mainland US addresses. Please tell us if your street cannot take a large truck.
